About
James Whiteley is a songwriter and guitarist from Leeds, United Kingdom, with many years of experience writing and singing original music. James has incorporated an array of genres into his music, from progressive rock to pop, film soundtracks, folk and ambient music.
As an experienced performer, James has co-founded two local bands, which have gone on to be featured on regional radio and BBC Introducing. He has also played at numerous clubs and festivals throughout West Yorkshire, such as The Fringe at Tramlines and the acclaimed Fulford Arms in York.
In March 2025, James released his first solo album, The Waves. Inspired in part by a trip to Holy Island in Northumberland, The Waves reflects on the themes of mortality and loss, while constructing vast sonic landscapes and evolving textures.
The album has been highly critically acclaimed, receiving excellent reviews, and has helped cement James' name in the progressive rock scene.
